Specificity Comments:
Interleukin-3 (IL-3) is a pleiotropic cytokine primarily secreted by activated T lymphocytes that stimulates proliferation and differentiation of hematopoietic cells. IL-3 supports growth of pluripotent stem cells and committed progenitors, and protects mast cells from apoptosis. It acts through a receptor complex that activates the MAP kinase signaling pathway via JAK2 and Stat5a/b.
Target Information
Interleukin 3 (IL-3), also known as Mast Cell Growth Factor (MCGF), Multi-Colony Stimulating Factor (multi-CSF), or Eosinophil-CSF (E-CSF), is produced by activated T cells, mast cells, and eosinophils.
IL-3 stimulates colony formation across multiple hematopoietic lineages including erythroid, megakaryocyte, neutrophil, eosinophil, basophil, mast cell, and monocyte. Its bioactivity is highly species-specific; human IL-3 has no activity on mouse cells. IL-3 is involved in cell growth, differentiation, apoptosis, and may have neurotrophic roles associated with neurologic disorders.
