Amine-reactive Fluorescein Dyes

FITC is the fluorescein molecule functionalized with an isothiocyanate (—N=C=S) reactive group. It reacts with primary amines on proteins, peptides, and other biomolecules.
NHS-fluorescein, an alternative derivative, has greater specificity toward primary amines and forms more stable linkages. Pierce amine-reactive fluorescein dyes are mixed isomers (5- and 6-positions) with indistinguishable excitation and emission spectra, suitable for protein labeling without isomer separation.
