Target Information
CD1a is a non-polymorphic MHC Class I-related cell surface glycoprotein expressed in association with Beta-2 microglobulin.
It is found on cortical thymocytes, Langerhans cells, dendritic cells, certain T-cell leukemias, and various other tissues.
CD1a proteins mediate the presentation of lipid and glycolipid antigens to T cells.
The human genome contains five CD1 family genes (CD1a, b, c, d, and e) clustered on chromosome 1.
CD1a localizes to the plasma membrane and recycles through vesicles of the early endocytic system.
Alternatively spliced transcript variants have been observed, though their biological validity is undetermined.
