Target Information
The P2X3 receptor belongs to the family of purinoceptors for ATP and functions as a ligand-gated ion channel. It may transduce ATP-evoked nociceptor activation. Mouse studies indicate its role in peripheral pain responses and urinary bladder volume reflex pathways. Selective antagonists for this receptor could have potential therapeutic applications in pain relief and urinary disorders.
