PA1-10023 was made against purified bovine blood-derived ubiquitin coupled to keyhole limpet hemocyanin (KLH) with glutaraldehyde.
Target Information
Ubiquitin is a highly conserved protein involved in targeting cellular proteins for degradation by the 26S proteasome. It is synthesized as a precursor consisting of polyubiquitin chains or a single ubiquitin fused to another protein.
This gene encodes a fusion protein with ubiquitin at the N-terminus and ribosomal protein S27a at the C-terminus. Upon expression, it is processed to generate free ubiquitin and ribosomal protein S27a.
Ribosomal protein S27a is part of the 40S ribosomal subunit, contains C4-type zinc finger domains, and is located in the cytoplasm. Pseudogenes derived from this gene exist in the genome.
Similar fusion proteins include ribosomal proteins L40 and S30, which are synthesized with ubiquitin or ubiquitin-like proteins. Multiple alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding identical proteins have been identified.
