Target Information
The nucleoprotein (NP) of Influenza A virus encapsidates the negative strand of the viral RNA and is essential for replicative transcription. It may also be involved in other essential functions throughout the virus life cycle. NP binds ssRNA and self-associates to form large oligomeric complexes. It interacts with viral polymerase subunits PB1 and PB2, and matrix protein M1.
NP also interacts with several cellular protein families, including nuclear import receptors (importin class), filamentous actin (F-actin), nuclear export receptor CRM1, and DEAD box helicase BAT1/UAP56 (Portela et al., 2002).
