Target Information
Cyclin T1 encodes a member of the highly conserved cyclin C subfamily. The protein associates with cyclin-dependent kinase 9 (CDK9) and forms a major subunit of positive transcription elongation factor b (p-TEFb).
This complex acts as a cofactor for HIV-1 Tat protein and is essential for full activation of viral transcription. It also triggers transcript elongation through phosphorylation of the RNA polymerase II largest subunit.
Overexpression of Cyclin T1 is implicated in tumor growth. Alternative splicing results in multiple transcript variants.
