Target Information
The STAT5b protein is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT proteins are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases and form homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus to act as transcription activators. STAT5b mediates signal transduction triggered by ligands such as IL2, IL4, CSF1, and various growth hormones. It is involved in TCR signaling, apoptosis, mammary gland development, and sexual dimorphism of liver gene expression. STAT5b can fuse with the retinoic acid receptor-alpha (RARA) gene in a subset of acute promyelocytic leukemias (APLL), and dysregulation of its signaling may contribute to disease pathogenesis.
