Target Information
This gene encodes a member of the galectin family, which are β-galactoside-binding lectins with conserved carbohydrate recognition domains. Galectins are involved in essential cellular processes such as development, differentiation, cell–cell and cell–matrix interactions, growth regulation, apoptosis, and RNA splicing. This gene is widely expressed in tumoral tissues and is implicated in integrin-like cell interactions. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
