Target Information
CD204 gene encodes the class A macrophage scavenger receptors, which include three types (1, 2, 3) generated by alternative splicing. These macrophage-specific trimeric integral membrane glycoproteins are involved in physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.
Type 1 and 2 isoforms mediate endocytosis of modified low-density lipoproteins (LDLs). Type 3 isoform, however, does not internalize acetyl-LDL and is retained in the endoplasmic reticulum, exerting a dominant negative effect on types 1 and 2. Diseases associated with MSR1 include Barrett Esophagus and Prostate Cancer.
