Target Information
The CD204 (MSR1) gene encodes class A macrophage scavenger receptors, which include three isoforms (types 1, 2, and 3) generated by alternative splicing.
These macrophage-specific trimeric integral membrane glycoproteins are involved in physiological and pathological processes such as atherosclerosis, Alzheimer’s disease, and host defense.
- Isoforms 1 and 2 mediate endocytosis of modified LDLs.
- Isoform 3 lacks endocytosis capability due to altered intracellular processing and retention in the endoplasmic reticulum.
- Isoform 3 can inhibit the function of isoforms 1 and 2, suggesting a regulatory mechanism for scavenger receptor activity.
