Target Information
The Golgi apparatus participates in glycosylation and transport of proteins and lipids within the secretory pathway and consists of stacked cisternae. Interactions between the Golgi and microtubules are essential for its reorganization during mitosis.
GOLGA5 encodes a member of the golgin family, which localizes to the Golgi membrane. This coiled-coil membrane protein is implicated in vesicle tethering and docking. Translocations involving GOLGA5 and the RET proto-oncogene have been observed in tumor tissues, forming chimeric sequences designated RET-II and PTC5.
