Target Information
Inhibins and activins regulate various physiological functions including hormone secretion, germ cell development, erythroid differentiation, insulin secretion, nerve cell survival, embryonic development, and bone growth depending on their subunit composition. Activins oppose the functions of inhibins.
Inhibins are mainly expressed in liver, uterus, and ovary tissue, and also in benign prostatic hyperplasia. Inhibin A (α + β-A) and Inhibin B (α + β-B) inhibit follicle stimulating hormone secretion. Inhibin β-C forms a homodimer and is predominantly expressed in adult liver and benign prostatic hyperplasia.
