Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene has sequence similarity with members of the WD40 repeat-containing protein family, which are involved in regulatory functions such as signal transduction, RNA processing, gene regulation, vesicular trafficking, and cytoskeletal assembly.
This protein acts as a subunit in the corepressor SMRT (silencing mediator for retinoid and thyroid receptors) complex together with histone deacetylase 3.
The gene is located adjacent to the ocular albinism gene and may be involved in the pathogenesis of ocular albinism with late-onset sensorineural deafness.
Four transcript variants encoding two different isoforms have been identified, and the gene shows high similarity to the Y chromosome TBL1Y gene.
