Target Information
Chromatin organization plays a fundamental role in regulating transcription in eukaryotic cells. The nuclear receptor corepressor (N-CoR) and silencing mediator of retinoid and thyroid hormone receptors (SMRT) participate in diverse transcriptional repression pathways. Both N-CoR and SMRT exist in large protein complexes and mediate repression by recruiting histone deacetylases to form repressive chromatin. HDAC3 is the main HDAC associated with these complexes, essential for repression. TBLR1, a WD-40 repeat protein, also associates with N-CoR and SMRT complexes, acting as a core component whose specific role remains to be elucidated.
