Target Information
NTRK2 (TRKB) is part of the neurotrophic factor family essential for development and maintenance of the mammalian nervous system. It acts as a receptor for brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF), regulating both short-term synaptic functions and long-term potentiation.
TrkB is a membrane-bound receptor that phosphorylates itself and MAPK pathway members upon neurotrophin binding, leading to cell differentiation.
Mutations in the TrkB gene are associated with obesity and mood disorders. Alternate splice variants encoding different isoforms have been identified.
