This antibody detects endogenous AOX1 protein at a molecular weight of approximately 148 kDa.
Purity is greater than 95% by SDS-PAGE.
Target Information
AOX1 (Aldehyde oxidase 1) is a 1338 amino acid cytoplasmic enzyme that catalyzes the oxidation of various aldehydes, producing hydrogen peroxide. Under certain conditions, AOX1 can also generate superoxide free radicals.
Defects in oxygen radical metabolism have been associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor neuron degeneration. AOX1 is highly expressed in the ventral horn of the spinal cord, and its gene is located in a chromosomal region linked to ALS2, suggesting AOX1 as a candidate gene for ALS2.
