Target Information
This gene encodes coagulation factor III, a cell surface glycoprotein that initiates blood coagulation cascades. It acts as a high-affinity receptor for coagulation factor VII, forming a complex that catalyzes the initiation of the coagulation protease cascades by specific limited proteolysis.
Unlike other cofactors that circulate as inactive precursors, this factor is fully functional when expressed on cell surfaces. It comprises three domains: extracellular, transmembrane, and cytoplasmic.
Congenital deficiency of this factor has not been described.
