- Percent identity with other species by BLAST analysis:
Human (100%), Gorilla/Gibbon/Monkey (95%), Marmoset (89%), Mouse/Dog (84%) - For IHC(P), use heat-induced antigen retrieval in pH 6.0 citrate buffer.
- After incubation with the primary antibody, slides were incubated with biotinylated secondary antibody, followed by alkaline phosphatase-streptavidin and chromogen.
Target Information
The oxytocin receptor (OXTR) belongs to the G-protein coupled receptor family. Its activity is mediated by G proteins which activate a phosphatidylinositol-calcium second messenger system.
The receptor consists of 389 amino acids and has a molecular weight of approximately 43,000 kDa.
The oxytocin-oxytocin receptor system plays an important role in uterine contractions during parturition and milk ejection.
Oxytocin receptors are expressed by myoepithelial cells of the mammary gland, and in both the myometrium and endometrium of the uterus at the end of pregnancy.
Additionally, oxytocin receptors are present in the central nervous system, mediating behaviors such as maternal bonding, social recognition, sexual and aggressive behaviors, and stress and anxiety regulation.
