Target Information

The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the STAT family of transcription factors. In response to cytokines and growth factors, STAT family members are phosphorylated by receptor-associated kinases and form homo- or heterodimers that translocate to the nucleus to act as transcription activators. STAT5 beta mediates signal transduction triggered by ligands such as IL2, IL4, CSF1, and various growth hormones. It participates in TCR signaling, apoptosis, mammary gland development, and liver gene expression dimorphism. Abnormal signaling involving this protein may contribute to acute promyelocytic leukemia (APLL).
