Target Information
TAF12 is involved in the control of transcription by RNA polymerase II through the basal transcription machinery, which consists of proteins assembling into complexes modulated by transactivator proteins binding to cis-regulatory elements near transcription start sites. Some modulators interact directly with the basal complex, while others act as bridging proteins linking transactivators to basal transcription factors. Among these are the TAF proteins, tightly associated with TBP in the TFIID complex. Different TAFs mediate functions of distinct transcriptional activators across various gene promoters and RNA polymerases. TAF12 interacts directly with TBP and TAF2I.
