Target Information
Heme oxygenase는 heme 대사에 필수적인 효소로, heme을 biliverdin으로 절단하며 biliverdin은 biliverdin reductase에 의해 bilirubin으로 전환된다. 또한 carbon monoxide를 생성하며 이는 신경전달물질로 작용할 수 있다. Heme oxygenase 활성은 heme 및 다양한 비-heme 물질에 의해 유도된다. 두 가지 isozyme, 즉 inducible HMOX1과 constitutive HMOX2가 존재하며, HMOX1과 HMOX2는 heme oxygenase 계열에 속한다. 여러 가지 alternative splicing 변이체가 보고되었으며, 세 가지 서로 다른 isoform을 암호화한다.
