Target Information
Heme oxygenase는 heme 대사에 필수적인 효소로, heme을 절단하여 biliverdin을 생성하며, 이후 biliverdin reductase에 의해 bilirubin으로 전환된다. 또한 carbon monoxide를 생성하며, 이는 신경전달물질로 작용할 수 있다. Heme oxygenase 활성은 heme 및 다양한 비-heme 물질에 의해 유도된다. Heme oxygenase는 inducible 형태인 HMOX1과 constitutive 형태인 HMOX2 두 가지 isozyme으로 존재한다. HMOX1 및 HMOX2는 heme oxygenase 패밀리에 속하며, 이 유전자는 세 가지 다른 isoform을 암호화하는 여러 가지 alternative splicing 변이를 가진다.
