IRF6 유전자는 interferon regulatory transcription factor (IRF) 패밀리에 속하는 단백질을 암호화합니다.
이 패밀리의 구성원은 보존된 N-말단 helix-turn-helix DNA 결합 도메인과 덜 보존된 C-말단 단백질 결합 도메인을 공유합니다.
이 유전자의 돌연변이는 van der Woude syndrome 및 popliteal pterygium syndrome을 유발할 수 있으며, 단백질은 입천장 형성에 관여합니다.
