Target Information
The kelch-repeat protein family is a newly identified group of actin-binding proteins characterized by tandemly arranged motifs of about 50 amino acids. Most members are cytoskeletal proteins involved in processes such as actin cytoskeleton interaction, cytoplasmic sequestration of transcription factors, and cell morphology.
KLHL5, a novel kelch-like protein gene found in human fetal brain cDNA, shows high identity with Drosophila kelch protein and other family members. A splicing variant, KLHL5b, is expressed in many tissues.
