Target Information
Slc6a9 (GlyT1) is a glycine transporter belonging to the family of high-affinity Na⁺- and Cl⁻-dependent neurotransmitter transporters. Two subtypes exist: GlyT1 (Slc6a9) and GlyT2. Slc6a9 is predominantly located on glial cells within caudal brain regions. Glycine acts as an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the central nervous system. The SLC6A9 gene encodes one of two transporters that terminate glycine signaling by removing it from the synaptic cleft.
