Target Information
The Rhomboid family of proteins comprises conserved membrane serine proteases involved in growth and development. RHBDD1 is highly expressed in the testis and participates in the cleavage of BIK, a proapoptotic Bcl-2 family member. Overexpression or RNAi-mediated suppression of RHBDD1 in 293 cells modulates BIK-mediated apoptosis. In GC-1 spermatogonia cells, RHBDD1 suppression leads to loss of survival and differentiation capacity, suggesting its role in mammalian spermatogenesis.
