Target Information
Prostaglandins are produced by the metabolism of arachidonic acid. Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is one of five physiologically significant prostanoids. Its effects are mediated through binding to Prostaglandin E2 receptors (EP1, EP2, EP3, EP4), influencing immune, endocrine, cardiovascular, renal, and reproductive systems, as well as smooth muscle function.
EP2 receptors are 358 amino acid G-protein coupled receptors that stimulate adenylyl cyclase via Gs coupling and do not undergo PGE2-induced internalization. They play roles in contraction and relaxation of smooth muscle tissue and are mainly localized in lung and placental tissues.
