Target Information

Epidermal Growth Factor (EGF) binds to the EGF receptor (EGFR), a 170 kDa protein kinase, initiating diverse cellular signaling pathways.
Upon activation, EGFR forms homo- or heterodimers with other family members, each triggering distinct downstream cascades via SH2-containing effector proteins.
EGF is widely expressed in kidney, brain, prostate, and salivary glands, acting as a potent mitogenic factor.
It activates major signaling modules including RAS-RAF-MEK-ERK, PI3K-AKT, PLCγ-PKC, and STAT pathways, and may also influence NF-κB signaling.
Defects in the EGF gene are linked to hypomagnesemia type 4, and dysregulation is associated with cancer progression.
