Target Information
Metadherin (also known as MTDH or LYRIC) is a metastasis adhesion protein localized with tight junction proteins ZO-1 and occludin in polarized epithelial cells. It is not a structural component but is recruited during tight junction maturation. Metadherin is overexpressed in breast cancer tissues and xenografts, with low expression in normal breast tissue. It binds to lung vasculature, one of the main sites of breast cancer metastasis, through a C-terminal extracellular domain segment. Blocking this domain or inhibiting metadherin expression has been reported to reduce breast cancer metastasis.
