Product Specific Information
The antibody detects endogenous prion protein in human PC3 and A431 cell lines. It strongly detects human recombinant Prion protein and weakly detects bovine recombinant Prion protein.
Target Information
Human prion protein (PrP), also known as PRNP, is a GPI-anchored cell surface glycoprotein associated with lipid rafts and functioning as a signaling molecule.
PrP plays a role in apoptosis, epithelial cell proliferation, and junction protein distribution in human enterocytes.
Conversion of the normal cellular prion protein (PrPc) into the abnormal conformer (PrPSc) is a key step in prion neurodegenerative disorders such as Creutzfeld-Jakob disease (CJD).
PrPc is rich in alpha-helices, while PrPSc has a higher beta-sheet content and is resistant to proteinase K.
