Target Information
Thymidine Phosphorylase (also known as PD-ECGF or gliostatin) is a platelet-derived endothelial growth factor. In the presence of inorganic orthophosphate, it catalyzes the reversible phosphorolytic cleavage of thymidine and deoxyuridine to their corresponding bases and 2-deoxyribose-1-phosphate. It acts as a chemotactic and mitogenic factor for endothelial cells and functions as a non-heparin binding angiogenic factor present in platelets. It also plays a role in converting fluoropyrimidines, cytotoxic agents used in cancer therapy, into active cytotoxic metabolites.
