Target Information
TCF7L2, also known as TCF4, is a high mobility group (HMG) box-containing transcription factor that plays a key role in the Wnt signaling pathway. It is involved in glucose homeostasis through the regulation of pro-glucagon gene expression, encoding glucagon-like peptide 1 (GLP-1). Genetic variants of TCF7L2 have been linked to type 2 diabetes and are important for beta-cell survival and function. Differential splicing isoforms are expressed in various tissues during cancer progression, and gene targeting studies indicate TCF7L2 is required for maintaining crypt stem cells in the small intestine.
