Target Information
S-adenosylhomocysteine hydrolase (AHCY) catalyzes the reversible hydrolysis of S-adenosylhomocysteine (AdoHcy) to adenosine (Ado) and L-homocysteine (Hcy). It regulates intracellular S-adenosylhomocysteine concentration, which is important for transmethylation reactions. Deficiency in AHCY is associated with hypermethioninemia. This enzyme belongs to the adenosylhomocysteinase family.
