Target Information
SOX17 (transcription factor SOX-17) belongs to the SRY-related HMG box family of transcription factors.
It acts as a transcription regulator that binds and bends target promoter DNA sequences (5'-AACAAT-3' or 5'-AACAAAG-3').
SOX17 modulates transcriptional regulation via WNT3A and inhibits Wnt signaling by promoting degradation of activated CTNNB1.
It plays an essential role in embryonic development, particularly in heart tube looping and definitive gut endoderm formation.
Mutations in SOX17 can result in vesicoureteral reflux.
