Target Information
Adipose tissue serves as an energy reserve and secretes various physiologically important proteins such as LPL, leptin, Acrp30, perilipin, and resistin.
Resistin (also known as Adipocyte Secreted Factor, ADSF, or FIZZ3) is a cytokine secreted by adipocytes. It plays a potential role in type 2 diabetes, with elevated serum resistin levels observed in obese, diabetic mice, leading to insulin resistance and glucose intolerance.
Resistin gene expression requires C/EBP alpha and is modulated by coactivators CBP and p300, which acetylate histones at the resistin promoter. PPAR gamma and RXR ligands have been shown to downregulate resistin expression in adipocytes.
