Target Information

Transcriptional factor CTCF is a ubiquitously expressed, 11-zinc finger domain-containing DNA-binding nuclear phosphoprotein involved in multiple aspects of gene regulation, including transcriptional repression and activation, gene silencing, chromatin insulation, and imprinting control.
CTCF interacts with CCCTC motifs on DNA and can bind to HAT- and HDAC-containing complexes, influencing transcriptional activation or repression.
It plays roles in transactivation of the APPB gene, silencing of the c-myc gene, insulation of the human beta-globin and DMI myotonic dystrophy loci, and imprinting control of IGF2 and H19 regions.
Mutations in CTCF have been associated with invasive breast cancers, prostate cancers, and Wilms’ tumors.
