Target Information

Glucocorticoid Receptor (NR3C1) is a receptor for glucocorticoids that acts as both a transcription factor and a regulator of other transcription factors. It can form heteromeric cytoplasmic complexes with heat shock factors and immunophilins. Upon ligand binding, the receptor translocates into the nucleus. It is expressed in the heart, including left and right atria, ventricles, aorta, apex, septum, and atrioventricular node, as well as in adult and fetal heart tissues.
Alternate splicing and promoter usage result in multiple transcript variants or isoforms. Mutations in the gene can lead to glucocorticoid resistance (cortisol resistance). GR must associate with chaperone protein complexes for ligand activation and binds steroids such as dexamethasone with nanomolar affinity.
