Target Information
Glucocorticoid Receptor (NR3C1) is a receptor for glucocorticoids that functions as both a transcription factor and a regulator of other transcription factors. It forms cytoplasmic complexes with heat shock proteins and immunophilins and translocates to the nucleus upon ligand binding.
It is expressed in various heart tissues including atria, ventricles, aorta, and septum. Multiple transcript variants exist due to alternative splicing and promoter usage.
Mutations in the NR3C1 gene can cause glucocorticoid (cortisol) resistance. The receptor binds steroids such as dexamethasone with nanomolar affinity and requires chaperone protein complexes for ligand activation.
