Recombinant Human M-CSF is a 36.8 kDa homodimeric protein consisting of two 159 amino acid polypeptide subunits.

Target Information

M-CSF (Macrophage colony-stimulating factor, CSF-1) is a survival factor essential for the proliferation and development of monocytes, macrophages, and osteoclast progenitor cells.
It also induces VEGF secretion by macrophages, promoting endothelial progenitor cell mobilization and neovascularization.

M-CSF exists in multiple bioactive isoforms differing in potency and stability. The full-length protein is synthesized as a membrane-spanning protein that can be expressed on the cell surface or cleaved and modified in secretory vesicles.
It forms a disulfide-bonded homodimer processed into glycoprotein or proteoglycan isoforms, modified by chondroitin sulfate addition.

Binding of M-CSF to its receptor c-Fms (CSF-1R/CD115) induces receptor dimerization, internalization, and degradation. Functionally, M-CSF stimulates differentiation of hematopoietic stem cells to monocyte-macrophage populations in culture.
Human M-CSF shows activity on mouse cells, whereas mouse CSF shows no activity on human cells.
