CXCL12는 stromal cell-derived α chemokine으로, intercrine family에 속합니다.
CXCL12와 그 수용체 CXCR4는 림프구 활성화를 유도하며, 유방암 등 일부 암의 전이에 관여하는 것으로 알려져 있습니다.
또한, 이 유전자의 변이는 HIV-1 감염에 대한 저항성과 관련이 있습니다.
