Target Information
The leucine-rich, glioma inactivated gene 1 (LGI1) was first identified as a candidate tumor suppressor gene for glioma and may play a role in other cancers. LGI1 belongs to a family of proteins with leucine-rich repeats (LRRs) similar to other transmembrane signaling molecules and receptors. It acts as a ligand for ADAM22, a synaptic metalloprotease. Mutations in LGI1 are responsible for nearly half of autosomal dominant lateral temporal epilepsy (ADTLE), characterized by focal seizures with auditory symptoms. Two isoforms of LGI1 are known.
