Target Information
CDK8 phosphorylates the carboxy-terminal domain of the largest subunit of RNA polymerase II. This protein is coexpressed and copurified with Cyclin C. CDK8 is part of a family of cyclin-dependent kinases (CDKs) that regulate cell cycle progression.
The prototype member, p34/Cdc2, and related protein Cdk2 function in late cell cycle stages, while Cdk4 and Cdk6 are involved in G1 to S phase progression.
Human Cdk8–Cyclin C complex may interact with RNA polymerase, influencing transcription mechanisms that control cell division.
