ZIP14 (SLC39A14) is a zinc transporter belonging to the ZIP family of divalent ion transporters.
Zinc plays essential roles in cellular growth, development, and differentiation.
The ZIP family includes four subfamilies: I, II, LIV-1, and gufA.
ZIP14 is a glycosylated multipass plasma membrane protein in the LIV-1 subfamily.
It contributes to hypozincemia during inflammation and infection and is regulated in the liver by IL-6.
ZIP14 also mediates cellular uptake of non-transferrin-bound iron and transferrin-bound iron.
