Target Information
PKN1 (also known as PRK1) belongs to the protein kinase C superfamily. It is activated by the Rho family of small G proteins and may mediate Rho-dependent signaling pathways. PKN1 can also be activated by phospholipids. The 3-phosphoinositide-dependent protein kinase-1 (PDPK1/PDK1) phosphorylates this kinase, potentially mediating insulin signaling to the actin cytoskeleton. Proteolytic activation by caspase-3 or related proteases during apoptosis indicates its role in apoptosis-related signal transduction. Alternatively spliced transcript variants encoding distinct isoforms have been identified.
