Target Information
LIPG (Lipase G, Endothelial type) is an endothelial lipase and a novel member of the lipoprotein lipase gene family. It is synthesized by endothelial cells and functions at the site of synthesis. LIPG plays a physiological role in modulating lipoprotein metabolism. Overexpression of LIPG reduces HDL cholesterol levels, while deficiency elevates HDL levels in animals. It has substantial phospholipase activity and may be involved in lipoprotein metabolism and vascular biology. LIPG is classified as a member of the triglyceride lipase family, characterized by its lid region that determines substrate specificity. It acts as a carboxyl esterase, hydrolyzing high-density lipoproteins, emulsifying triglycerides, and contributing to efficient digestion of dietary fats. It can also bind to heparin.
