Product Specific Information
This antibody detects endogenous levels of SOX9 only when phosphorylated at Serine 181.
Target Information
SOX9 plays a critical role in sex determination and differentiation of Sertoli cells. It is involved in chondrogenesis and acts as a transcription factor regulating genes associated with cartilage formation. Translocation of the SOX9 gene can lead to campomelic dysplasia. SOX9 contributes to testis formation from fetal gonads and is essential for neuron-glia differentiation in the spinal cord. It also supports prostate epithelium development and maintenance, functions that are co-opted in prostate cancer to promote tumor progression. Additionally, SOX9 influences neural crest precursor formation and melanin production. Expression has been observed in adult testis, adult heart, and fetal brain.
