Target Information

TLR5 is a Type I membrane protein belonging to the Toll-like receptor family, participating in the innate immune response to microbial agents. It plays a role in detecting bacterial flagellins and acts via MyD88 and TRAF6, leading to NF-κB activation, cytokine secretion, and inflammatory responses.
TLR5 is highly expressed in the liver, detected in the lung, and at low levels in most other tissues. The TLR5 gene locus is associated with susceptibility to Salmonella. Mouse strains exhibit varying resistance to S. typhimurium infection depending on their TLR5 haplotype.
A common TLR5 stop codon polymorphism disrupting TLR5 signaling is linked to susceptibility to Legionnaires' disease, highlighting its importance in innate immunity.
