Target Information
Histones are basic nuclear proteins responsible for the nucleosome structure of chromosomal fibers in eukaryotes. Two molecules of each core histone (H2A, H2B, H3, and H4) form an octamer, around which ~146 bp of DNA is wrapped to form nucleosomes.
The linker histone H1 interacts with linker DNA between nucleosomes and contributes to chromatin compaction.
The histone H4 gene is intronless, lacks polyA tails, and contains a palindromic termination element. It is located in the large histone gene cluster on chromosome 6.
