Target Information
The protein encoded by this gene is a member of the fibroblast growth factor (FGF) family, which exhibits broad mitogenic and cell survival activities. FGF23 plays key roles in embryonic development, cell growth, morphogenesis, tissue repair, and phosphate metabolism. Mutations in this gene are associated with autosomal dominant hypophosphatemic rickets and familial tumoral calcinosis with hyperphosphatemia. Elevated expression levels have been observed in oncogenic hypophosphatemic osteomalacia.
